To show how much recycled zippers can contribute to reducing CO2, YKK displayed recycled zippers made from PET plastic bottles at the Eco-Products 2007 exhibition.
This type of zipper can be easily recycled and breaks down into water and CO2 when mixed with microorganisms inside the dirt. Called biodegradable resins- this type of material is made of strong, heat resistant engineering plastic material.
YKK also developed a soft tank for transporting liquids that can be easily folded and stored in compact form with this zipper. The tank used to carry water on a tank trunk is held in place by this zipper, and once the water is transported to its destination and the tank is emptied, the tank can be folded to a small size in order to make room for transporting other cargo on the truck. This design leads to economical use of the truck.
